As your birth doula, I provide physical and emotional support - through labor and delivery - to you and others you choose to have with you.
My role is not to replace anyone, but to help you feel respected, supported, and capable.
Services
Prenatal Visits
During at least one or more prenatal visit, we will review your pregnancy together, discuss your birth plans, and talk abut my role as your doula, as well as any questions you have.
I'll also invite you to share any excitements, concerns, desires, expectations, or fears you have about your birth so that I can be a true support partner for you.
Birth Attendance
I will accompany you throughout active labor and birth to provide emotional and physical support, suggest appropriate comfort measures, and provide support and suggestions to those you choose to have at the birth.
I will help ensure that you feel heard and respected; that you have continuous support and do not ever feel alone; and that are coping well throughout labor.
Postpartum Check
To honor the client-doula relationship fully, I conduct a postpartum visit in which I can check in with you and your family, answer any questions, and make referrals as you desire. This visit is also a time for us to talk about your birth experience together.
About Me
I'm Deirdre, an open-hearted listener and empowering advocate. As a big sister, I'm a natural when it comes to supporting patiently, encouraging warmly, and loving fiercely. And as your birth doula, my role is to center you and your family in this experience. My goal is to understand your expectations and wishes; to support you physically and emotionally throughout labor; to provide space to ask for what you need; and to leave you with a sense of confidence in your own capability.
When I was a kid, my mom would find me in the back corner of the library pouring over anatomical illustrations of pregnancy and birth. For a few years there I was sure I wanted to be a pediatrician. Although life took me in the direction of the corporate world for a while, those library book illustrations have always stayed with me.
In January 2020, I completed a birth doula skills training at The Simkin Center at Bastyr University in Seattle, WA. The pandemic delayed my putting those skills into action, but as the world reopens with more vaccinations I'm excited to work with new clients.
Location
I serve clients in northwest Washington state, including Snohomish, Skagit, and Whatcom counties.
Schedule
My current availability is mid-June 2022 onwards.
